"North Georgia's been kicking butt for a lot of years," Major General James E. Livingston said, kicking off his keynote speech for last Saturday's memorial ceremony. An impressive airshow overtook NGCSU's skies, with parachuters and numerous restored aircraft, all in honor of the 29 fallen servicemen, once cadets at North Georgia, whose lives were taken during the Vietnam War.
Across from Price Memorial Building, there sits a white Victorian style house overlooking the road, a time capsule of sorts, home to a plethora of Appalachian history, waiting to be discovered.
Junior Art Marketing major Andrew Otts has won this year's Hal B. Rhodes competition, an annual themed art show that showcases the best of North Georgia's art program. "When I heard that this year's theme was going to be about the future before us, my immediate thought was that, 'If it's going to be about the future, it better have a robot in it.'"
Although NGCSU has many former and current students who have served in various conflicts, there also are a number of veterans living in Dahlonega who never attended NGCSU. Robert Ranniger, or "Lee" as he is called by his coworkers, is a veteran of the Vietnam War.
Who doesn't love a good movie? This summer there are more than a few hits coming to theaters. Whether you like comedies, action movies, or cartoons we've got you covered.
"Are you ready for this?" As if stuck on repeat, that question flitted through my mind thousands of times as I sat awaiting the first of my two flights to Beijing. After all, who would not be anxious about living 7,000 miles from home on another continent for a semester? Two months I've lived here since that day, and I finally have my answer: I have never been more ready.
Summer is just around the corner and before students can enjoy the pleasures of a school-free schedule, a daunting cloud rains on their parade: finals.
Student activity fees. Everyone pays them, but does anyone know where they go? All student activity fees, which are currently $65 per student, go directly to the SGA's budget, which then allocates the money to fund various student organizations and services. The total budget projection for the next school year, based upon tentative enrollment numbers, is at $684,835.
Many students have experienced the adrenaline rush of searching through the parking lot, overcoming all obstacles to get that one spot that hasn't been taken, only to have to park in a 30 minute spot. The result of this, as we all know, is receiving a ticket if you are unable to move your car in time.
The U.S. military offers many different ways to become involved in serving one's country. Today in the United States employers are looking for experience and education- the military offers both. Economics play a major role in the decision to enlist or commission into the service.
As I look back on this quickly fading school year, I can see why I am so out of shape. There simply was not enough time to workout and eat healthy. Plus, being healthy seems expensive. I work 40 hours a week and go to school 12, not to mention the ungodly amoun
Every one knows that crime doesn't pay, but it seems that North Georgia students just can't stay out of trouble. Check out what crazy antics students have been up to in this week's edition of NGCSU crime reports.
If you're looking for real-world experience without worrying about getting fired, or just have an interest in photography, graphic arts, advertising or business administration, The Saint is the place to be this fall. Your online student newspaper will be expanding its features and services at the same time it introduces a new format starting in August.
It's time to say farewell to another school year, and the second year of The Saint.
On Sept. 1, 2010, the old student, faculty, and staff email will be removed from the North Georgia website, and will not be able to be accessed again.
Domination and perfection have been two words associated with North Georgia softball this historic season. The team won 45 consecutive games, 38 of which were pitched by junior Sarah Phillips. The Lady Saints also had 21 shutouts, 20 wins in the Peach Belt Conference and hit 51 home runs.
The members of North Georgia's track and cross country team were stunned after being informed earlier this year in an impromptu meeting with Athletics Director Randy Dunn that both teams no longer were part of school's sports programs because of budget cuts.
"The Things That Keep Me Up at Night" is a column that reveals weekly realizations about everyday life that don't really make sense. This week: Where do all the hair bows girls buy go?
It's indisputable that just about anything will turn up on the Internet, and we're here to direct you to the weirdest of it.
In March Aramark, NGCSU's food service partner, put out a survey and asked students for their views. After answering the questions, students were entered into a drawing for a $250 Best Buy Gift Card, and two $25 Best Buy Gift Cards. This past week the winners of the 2010 NGCSU dining styles survey were announced.
This is the end of my fifth year at NGCSU, and I am just now beginning to figure out (and take advantage of) about a quarter of the resources that are available to students. The most recent resource I've found: Career Services.
Summer songs. We all have them. There are some songs we'd rather not mention to anyone else, and some we will sing at the top of our lungs with the windows down while the person next to us looks on in bewilderment and disgust. Embarrassing or not, they take us back to a time that makes us smile and remember the great times shared with family and friends.
